U2Demo Shines at ENLIT Europe 2025 in Bilbao

U2Demo made a strong impression at ENLIT Europe 2025, held in Bilbao, showcasing innovative solutions for peer-to-peer energy sharing and the digital transformation of energy systems. As part of the European Commission-funded initiatives, U2Demo continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering decentralized, harmonized, and integrated energy networks across Europe.

A Hub for Innovation and Collaboration

ENLIT Europe is renowned for bringing together bright minds and forward-thinking projects in the energy sector. This year, U2Demo joined forces with EV4EU and SHIFT2DC, reinforcing the presence of direct current innovation in the European energy landscape. The event provided a platform for the U2Demo team to interact with energy professionals, policymakers, and technology providers, exchanging ideas on sustainable energy management and peer-to-peer energy sharing systems.

According to INESC-ID, the collaboration between these projects highlighted the potential of digital technologies to facilitate energy flexibility and harmonization across multiple domains and stakeholders.

Showcasing U2Demo’s Latest Advances

Visitors to the U2Demo stand explored hands-on demonstrations of the platform’s capabilities, including:

  • Integration of local energy communities for optimized energy flows
  • Smart peer-to-peer energy trading using harmonized protocols
  • Innovative DC grid solutions in collaboration with SHIFT2DC

The U2Demo team emphasized the project’s role in scaling up decentralized energy sharing while maintaining technical interoperability—a theme further discussed in the article “U2Demo: From Harmonisation to Integration in Peer-to-Peer Energy Sharing” on the Enlit World library.

A Networking Success

ENLIT Europe 2025 was not only about showcasing technology—it was a chance for the U2Demo team and partners to connect with industry leaders, policymakers, and other EU projects. The team included members from INESC-ID, Energy Web, KU Leuven, E.DSO, EDP, and other collaborating organizations.

Throughout the event, they engaged in insightful discussions on user-centric peer-to-peer energy sharing and the integration of decentralized energy systems. Helena Gerard (VITO/EnergyVille), who represented U2Demo in the “Digital Technologies” session, highlighted the project’s philosophy:

Just like a great U2 song, a successful platform starts with understanding stakeholders, is built to be interoperable, and evolves by testing and building on what works — that’s the U2Demo approach to energy sharing and P2P trading.

By actively participating in booth presentations, networking sessions, and live demonstrations, the U2Demo team strengthened collaborations and knowledge exchange, reinforcing the project’s role in advancing Europe’s energy transition.

Looking Ahead

The U2Demo team returns from Bilbao energized and inspired, ready to continue driving peer-to-peer energy innovations and contribute to a more flexible, decentralized, and harmonized energy system across Europe. Future collaborations, pilot projects, and knowledge-sharing initiatives are on the horizon, building on the momentum generated at ENLIT Europe 2025.
