Each year, the Stanford World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking highlights researchers whose work shapes global scientific progress. This year, the U2Demo community celebrates a special moment. Several U2Demo researchers received recognition in this influential ranking, which strengthens the visibility and credibility of the entire project.
Geert Deconinck and Erik Delarue from KU Leuven, together with Hugo Morais from INESC‑ID, earned a place among the “World’s Top 2% Scientists.” Their inclusion reflects years of dedication, influential publications, and strong academic leadership. Moreover, their work supports the scientific foundations that drive U2Demo forward. As a result, their recognition also reinforces the project’s broader mission within Europe’s changing energy landscape.
The ranking itself is curated by Stanford University and Elsevier. It draws on citation metrics extracted from Elsevier’s Scopus database, with data updated until the end of 2023. In addition, the system presents two perspectives on impact: the Single‑Year 2023 Performance list and the Career‑Long Performance list. These two lists allow readers to identify both recent achievements and long‑term contributions within the scientific community.
Hugo Morais appears on both lists, which highlights the strength and consistency of his research. Geert Deconinck also features on both lists. This dual presence shows the continued relevance of his work. Meanwhile, Erik Delarue appears in the Career‑Long ranking, which reflects the enduring value of his scientific contributions.
This recognition goes beyond individual achievement. It strengthens U2Demo’s academic profile and demonstrates the expertise within its consortium. Furthermore, it helps position the project as a trusted contributor to European energy innovation.
