On June 12, 2025, Dr. Hugo Morais, Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at INESC-ID, delivered a seminar at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo, Brazil. Hosted by the Department of Energy as part of the PSE 2025 Seminar Series, the presentation focused on European projects related to electric mobility, energy communities, and DC grids. The event attracted professors, researchers, and PhD students, fostering a rich academic exchange on sustainable energy systems.
Dr. Morais highlights the activities and results of the U2Demo project, alongside SHift2DC and EV4EU, emphasizing the adaptability of energy community frameworks to varying institutional environments. He had the opportunity to present the activities currently being developed in the U2Demo project, covering topics related to Energy Communities, peer-to-peer (P2P) energy markets, and Energy Sharing. Several methodologies were discussed, considering their application in different regulatory and socio-economic contexts across diverse geographical regions. The presentation facilitated valuable discussions on how energy community frameworks can be adapted to local institutional environments, highlighting the importance of tailoring P2P market mechanisms to local regulatory constraints and social dynamics. The academic exchange also provided insights into optimizing energy sharing models for different economic structures while maintaining community engagement and participation incentives.

A key takeaway from the seminar was the importance of customizing energy sharing models to optimize their effectiveness across different economic structures. This approach aligns with the overarching goals of the U2Demo project to promote sustainable and community-based energy solutions.
Hugo Morais commented:
“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Luiz Carlos Silva for the invitation and his valuable collaboration in the co-supervision of the PhD research work of Nathalia Hidalgo. This academic partnership has enriched the research experience and contributed to advancing knowledge in sustainable energy systems and community-based energy solutions.”
