The U2Demo Horizon Europe project is prominently recognized in two newly released reports by the BRIDGE Regulation Working Group. These publications spotlight regulatory barriers, best practices, and pathways forward in both sector integration and energy sharing.
Sector Integration: Unlocking Synergies Across Energy Systems
The report “Supporting potential synergies from increased sector coupling, sector integration, and system integration” explores strategies to better align electricity, heating, mobility, and gas sectors. It finds that institutional and structural obstacles now pose more significant constraints than purely technical issues and recommends a six-part policy roadmap to catalyse integration and unlock associated investments.
U2Demo’s hands-on contributions—particularly through the development of interoperable frameworks and trading models—are cited as part of the knowledge underpinning these recommendations. Learn more about the U2Demo teams driving these innovations via Work Package 1 (establishing frameworks for active consumer roles) and WP2(building architectures and models for P2P trading and flexibility).

Energy Sharing: Empowering Communities
The second report, “Report on energy sharing“, maps the regulatory terrain for collective self-consumption and peer-to-peer energy models across 15 European nations. While countries like Portugal, France, and Spain are ahead in enabling frameworks, others are still developing them. The report proposes eight strategic recommendations across regulatory, financial, technical, and social domains.
U2Demo’s insight into these models—particularly via WP3 (open-source trading platform development) and WP4(algorithm implementation and market integration)—has informed these findings. The project’s active pilots in energy sharing reinforce these insights in real-world settings.

Strengthening Europe’s Energy Future
Drawing on more than 50 EU-funded initiatives, including U2Demo, these reports deliver actionable guidance for policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders. They highlight U2Demo not just as a contributor, but as a forward-looking trendsetter in clean energy regulation and integration.
Through its Pilots, U2Demo is translating these frameworks into tangible solutions—from linking district heating with mobility systems to facilitating peer-to-peer energy exchanges among local communities. These real-world tests reveal how integrated systems can enhance daily efficiency, foster innovation, and ensure community inclusion.
By bridging technical advancements with social applicability, U2Demo stands as a catalyst for systemic transformation—where technology, policy, and real-world needs converge.
As Europe advances on its decarbonisation and sector-integration journey, U2Demo remains committed to driving inclusive, scalable, and impactful solutions for a resilient and equitable energy future.
