INTELLIGENT project is a Horizon Europe–funded Innovation Action developing interoperable, open-source tools that enable citizens organised in energy communities and grid operators to deploy peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading at scale.
Building on Grid Singularity’s open-source GSY DEX platform, INTELLIGENT expands advanced trading mechanisms — including multi-attribute auctions — and connects spot and flexibility markets. The project ensures fair market access for small energy actors, while supporting secure, decentralised market operations that enhance grid flexibility and resilience, leveraging the Energy Web data exchange infrastructure.
At user level, INTELLIGENT introduces AI/ML-based flexibility optimisation services to improve energy efficiency and participation in local energy markets. Billing and payment services are also developed, with all solutions released as open source to enable further development and commercialisation.
The solutions are validated through four diverse European pilot sites, supported by social and regulatory analysis and continuous stakeholder feedback.
Role in relation to the U2Demo Project
INTELLIGENT is a synergy project to U2Demo, with both initiatives addressing complementary aspects of peer‑to‑peer energy trading and energy sharing in European energy communities. While U2Demo focuses on consumer‑centred strategies that enable widespread participation and democratic access to P2P energy sharing, INTELLIGENT contributes advanced, open‑source technological building blocks to support scalable, secure, and grid‑aware local energy markets.
The collaboration explores shared technical and conceptual ground, including interoperable P2P market designs, flexibility integration, and blockchain‑enabled infrastructures. Through joint communication activities and knowledge exchange, the projects aim to increase the visibility, coherence, and impact of open‑source solutions for local energy markets across Europe.
