We are proud to announce that Klimaan, one of the pilot partners in the U2Demo project, has earned a nominated for the European Sustainable Energy Awards 2025 (EUSEW) in the category “Local Energy Action.”
In the Otterbeek neighbourhood in Mechelen (Belgium), Klimaan pioneers a powerful example of citizen‑led energy transition. By installing solar panels on social housing units, the project gives vulnerable families access to affordable and renewable electricity. In addition, it promotes local energy sharing and supports community engagement — key principles at the heart of both Klimaan’s mission and the U2Demo project.
As a U2Demo pilot site, Otterbeek showcases how cities and communities can implement inclusive, scalable and smart energy solutions in real life. Klimaan’s nomination reflects the growing recognition of cooperative, citizen-driven models in shaping Europe’s sustainable future.
The awards will take place during the European Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels on June 10th. You can support Klimaan’s inspiring work by voting before 1 June 2025.
