U2Demo General Assembly in Paris: A strong foundation for a collaborative future

On March 6–7, 2025, the U2Demo consortium gathered high above the Paris skyline at Tour Légende in La Défense for the project’s first General Assembly.

With 44 representatives from all project partners, the two-day meeting offered a dynamic platform to review progress, align on next steps, and strengthen cross-partner collaboration as the project advances its mission to build a decentralized, peer-to-peer energy-sharing future.

Full Agenda, Real Progress

Day 1 opened with updates from the project coordinator INESC ID, followed by in-depth presentations from the leaders of key Work Packages. This included sessions on:

  • WP1 (TNO): Harmonized frameworks for P2P trading
  • WP2 (VITO): Energy-sharing architecture and flexibility
  • WP3 (Exaion): Open-source platform development
  • WP4 (Artelys): Trading algorithms
  • WP7 (REScoop.Vlaanderen): Dissemination & exploitation

The afternoon was dedicated to the four pilot sites—Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and the Netherlands—each presenting their progress and action plans. This was followed by interactive discussions on the regulatory, business, and social frameworks needed to support the project’s peer-to-peer energy systems.

The day concluded with working sessions on open-source strategies and exploitation planning, before closing with an evening ideation session and consortium dinner with a view over Paris.

Day 2 focused on the results of the ideation phase, as six breakout groups shared their proposals to improve user experience, platform functionality, modularity, and community engagement. The morning wrapped up with a technical session on the development of the open-source platform and an outlook on adoption pathways.

As U2Demo moves into a more implementation-focused phase, the outcomes of this General Assembly provide a clear foundation for collaborative action. Partners left Paris energized and aligned, ready to take the next steps in demonstrating the feasibility, impact, and scalability of community-based energy sharing across Europe.
