Klimaan is a dynamic energy cooperative based in Mechelen, Belgium, dedicated to fostering a sustainable and climate-neutral society.
Established in May 2019, Klimaan empowers local communities by developing and investing in renewable energy projects. The cooperative focuses on solar and thermal energy, energy efficiency, and shared e-mobility solutions.
As the Belgian demonstrator in the U2DEMO project, Klimaan will implement and test innovative tools in its lighthouse project, Otterbeek, a social housing district equipped with solar PV systems. This project will showcase the inclusion of social factors and gamification, providing valuable insights and real-world data.
Klimaan’s involvement ensures practical, effective, and scalable solutions, demonstrating the feasibility and impact of sustainable energy practices in a community setting. Klimaan’s commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and innovation has garnered widespread support from local citizens. Through educational programs and collaborative efforts, Klimaan raises awareness about sustainable energy practices and encourages active participation in the energy transition.
