The Passive House Institute (iEPD) is dedicated to communicating and explaining sustainable solutions in the building industry – in field of architecture, energy efficiency in buildings, energy concepts for districts and sustainable development of cities.

iEPD was founded in 2005 and is a non-profit, non-political, non-governmental organisation. The aim of iEPD is to contribute to the sustainable development of the building industry in Slovakia. The members of iEPD are organisations, mainly architectural studios, producers of building materials and components, construction companies and others.

As a specialised institute, iEPD is committed to the development of sustainable construction and the development of cities into “cities of the future”. It has extensive expertise in the core areas of sustainable solutions and energy efficiency in buildings and neighbourhoods. With a multidisciplinary team of experts, the iEPD organises conferences on Passive Houses, seminars on sustainable architecture and urbanism for professionals, summer schools for architecture students, discussion clubs, open days on Passive Houses and study tours.

It has carried out a number of grant projects and produced specialist publications. The iEPD continuously cooperates with the academic sector in Slovakia and abroad, in particular with the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. iEPD has developed a new elective subject “Positive Energy Districts: Development and Renewal Principles”, which will contribute to the expansion of the university’s curriculum and help prepare the new generation of urban planners for the complex challenges of climate change.

Role under the Project

iEPD will be working on regulation, policies and Energy Communities management topics.
